Thiru Simon a french army retired soldier, and script artist had bought a house in Thatcher (Carpenter) street at Nellithope. Than two other neighbours also sell their houses to Thiru Simon who had the idea to build a Kalyana Mandabam. This Mandabam has been constructed by assembling these three old Colonial style houses. At that time in the seventies, weddings and other receptions took place in celebrators house taking two third of the road to build a tent to receive people and the ceremony took place inside the house.

When a Tamil girl starts puberty, a coming of age ceremony called, Manjal Neerattu Vizha, is celebrated with friends and family members, to recognize the girl's first stages of womanhood. This coming of age ceremony is considered to be a samskara. A samskara is any ritual performed at important stages in the life of a Hindu. This samskara is specifically for girls around the ages of 13.

Traditionally, an Indian wedding lasts around 3 days.
The first day is mainly intended for the couple, bridal party and close relatives. This ceremony typically happens at the couples home through a ceremony known as ganesh pooja performed by the priest.
The second day is refferred to as a mehndi ceremony. The bride, female friends and family member meet up to recieve intricate henna designs on their hands and feet. Later that evening, wedding guests are invited to a sangeet which is similar to our version of a rehersal dinner.
The third day is normally the actual ceremony, reception and cocktail hour.
